How We Research & Recommend Audio Products

The short version: Soundmali is an independent retailer. Audio evaluation here is done in-house by our team of experienced sound engineers, on professional equipment — not by an acoustic laboratory. Our audio recommendations are built from manufacturer specifications, published independent measurements, and large volumes of long-run owner reports — plus hands-on handling of the units we stock. Where we have not personally used a product, we say so on the page.

Who we actually are

Soundmali is operated by Soundmali Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15165919, incorporated September 2023). You can verify all of this yourself on the UK public register at Companies House.

We are a small team, not a media publisher. We do not operate an acoustic laboratory. Everything on this site is written and checked in-house. If you want to reach the person responsible for a page, email support@soundmali.com — a real person reads it.

Who evaluates, and on what

Audio evaluation at Soundmali is carried out in-house by our team of experienced sound engineers — people who work professionally with live sound and studio equipment. It is not outsourced, and it is not done by a marketing team.

What that means in practice: checks are carried out on professional audio equipment — mixing consoles, wireless systems, studio monitors, measurement tools and reference headphones — not on consumer listening gear alone.

What a hands-on check covers

A hands-on check takes roughly 30-60 minutes depending on the product type, and follows the same order every time:

1. Physical condition, serial and model verification, accessory check.
2. Connection and basic functions.
3. Sound quality and channel balance.
4. Noise behaviour.
5. Wireless connection stability.
6. Battery and charging behaviour.
7. The companion control app, where the product has one.
8. Results compared against the published manufacturer specifications.

What this check is not. It is a structured bench evaluation, not a laboratory measurement session. We do not publish frequency-response curves or ANC attenuation figures of our own — where such numbers appear on this site they come from named third-party measurement sources. We claim long-term behaviour only for products we have genuinely used over a long period, and we say which ones those are.

What we evaluate hands-on, and what we do not

Hands-on evaluation covers professional and consumer audio equipment: microphones, wireless systems, headphones and earphones, portable speakers, mixing consoles, studio equipment and related accessories.

Outside that scope — smartwatches, phones and personal-care products — our assessment is limited to verifiable technical specifications, supplier documentation and direct usage experience. We do not present those as tested products.

We do not claim to have bought or personally handled every product we sell. Where we have, the page says so; where we have not, we say that too.

How we decide what to recommend

We do not run an acoustic laboratory, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do have is a team of experienced sound engineers and professional equipment. Here is the actual process behind every audio guide on this site:

1. Manufacturer specification review. Driver size, codec support (SBC, AAC, aptX, LDAC, LC3), rated battery life, IP rating, ANC implementation and firmware update history — taken from the manufacturer's own published documentation, not from marketing pages.
2. Published independent measurements. Where credible third-party measurement data exists (frequency response, ANC attenuation curves, latency figures), we read it and weigh it above marketing claims.
3. Owner reports at volume. We read long-run owner feedback — retailer review sections, enthusiast forums and community threads — looking specifically for failure patterns that only appear after months of use: hinge wear, battery degradation, connection dropouts, ear-tip fit complaints.
4. Hands-on where we have it. We handle the units we stock and ship. Where we have personally used a product we say so on the page. Where we have not, we say that too.
5. Price verification. We check our prices against current retail before publishing a comparison, so the numbers in a guide are not stale.

What we will never do

• Claim we tested something we did not test.
• Invent review counts, ratings, customer numbers or awards.
• Rank a product higher because our margin on it is better — if we prefer a product for a commercial reason, we say so on the page.
• Describe ourselves as authorised or official resellers for brands that have not authorised us.
